Staying Motivated

Question
Hello im 21 and go on a diet for a week and get mad cause im not 10 lbs lighter.  I have such little patience when it comes to this, how can i make myself see that it takes months?  I seem to get off track alot and give up because of this, I also start getting obsessive and all i think about is losing weight . How to I break this and live a normal life while dieting?  thanks!

Answer
Hi MissKitty,
Sorry for my delay in getting back to you.  What you are describing is the biggest challenge people face in weight loss.  What I recommend is focusing on long term solutions, the weight did not come on overnight so it is not going to come off overnight.   A healthy weight loss is an average of about 5 pounds a month.  It's more about leading a healthy lifestyle and being active and then the weight will come.  Take your measurements, set realistic goals and check in with yourself every week to see how it's going, your successes and the areas you can improve.  Don't set "pie-in-the-sky" expectation as that is only setting you up for failure.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any follow up questions.
Lea
