No carbs in the afternoon/evening?

Question
Hi Mr Alevizon
I never had much luck losing weight with low carb/low glycemic diets.
In fact I found I do better the less meat I eat. I have I.B.S. and red meat and fat is a trigger.
Recently however I took a friends advice and limited my carbs to breakfast. The theory is that eating carbs early in the day gives you energy, and thet are burned off by the evening. In the evening I have a piece of chicken or fish with a salad but no carbs.
I am actually losing a little weight now!
I would be interested in your opinion on this.
Also, I would like to slowly reintroduce carbs into my lunch and supper meals. What would you suggest? BTW I was never into pasta or rice I am old school meat and potatoes- no doubt part of the problem!
Thanks for your advice!

Answer
Hi Bud

It sounds to me that you may have the type of metabolism that does better on more carbs and less meat.  The myth put forward by many trying to sell diets and diet products is that there really is a "one size fits all" type optimal diet.  That is obviously untrue.  Our "optimal diets" vary according to genetic makeup, history, physiological state, age, and a host of factors.

It is a complicated issue, but my best advice to you would be to get yourself a Kindle or Nook edition of an excellent E-book (which I have no financial interest in) that provides a simple test to see what type of diet best suits you, and then outlines how to use that diet.  I found this most helpful and effective for myself, although unlike you I tested out to be a "high protein" type.

The book is called "The Metabolic Typing Diet" by William Walcott, and it is available at Amazon's Kindle store for about $10 - may also be available at Barnes & Noble.  You can also purchase a hard copy for a few dollars more.

You can look at some of the contents free on Amazon.

Good luck - let me know if this helps if you try it.

Regards
Bill
