Weight Loss Pills

Question
HI,
i recently came across some weight loss pills i've had for a while, and thought i would try them. I am pretty overweight, and i wanted to check my closet before i bought new ones. the type is Alli, but they are expired by 5 months. i was wondering if they still worked, or if i should buy new ones. Thank you!

Answer
Good question, Claire! Expiration dates began to be required by US law in 1979. The expiration date is the date up to which the manufacturer guarantees full effectiveness of the medication. Most medications, prescription and over the counter, are safe to take after the expiration date according to FDA testing performed in the 1990's.  However, there are exceptions, so you should consult a pharmacist before taking any medication past the expiration date.
