QuestionI have been eating raw meat for a few months now and have taken quite a liking to marrow, liver, and heart in addition to muscle meat. I have found a particularly good local supplier of pasture-raised lamb. Today I intended to buy tongue from her, but she was out. However, she sold me an entire head instead. For the first time I am feeling slightly wary -- brain and eyes -- but I assume that it is fine to eat raw? Any tips or warnings? Thank you!
AnswerNo idea, really, as I have only ever eaten raw, grainfed brains from pigs and have never eaten raw eyes - I never had a problem with raw, grainfed pork brain, I just don't think it was useful for me. I am sure, however, that the brains and eyes are fine and healthy from a raw, grassfed or wild animal, given my past experience of eating various other raw organ-meats therefrom. If you still feel a bit insecure re this issue, you could always ask on rawpaleoforum as well, to find out from other rawists' experiences.
I have never found it possible to get hold of raw grassfed tongue from pastured sheep in my local
area. However, I have had no trouble getting hold of raw, grassfed tongue from pastured beef. It tastes wonderful, and I highly recommend it.
