QuestionHi Bill
Since I ditched the low fat diet and went to lower calories, low glycemic carbs only I am feeling better. I recently started counting grams of carbs, trying to stay under 50. For someone like me with metabolic syndrome is that an appropriate amount? Also, some of my favorite low glycemic carbs such as pasta and sourdough bread have a high grams of carbs count per serving. Can I splurge a bit on those, or do they need to be limited as well? Thanks!
AnswerHi Susan
I Have found for me at least - and as has been recommended for others by some well respected authors - that keeping your carb intake at between 50 and 100g of "good carbs"/day results in steady weight loss in otherwise healthy people. Exercise of course makes any diet even more effective.
For specific food recommendations I refer you to my website on the use of low glycemic foods. Take a minute to check out the pages devoted to the proper use of the glycemic index and glycemic load.
Good luck!
Bill
