Are you aware of any studies analyzing the effect of timing of various supplements taken over the course of the day? Factors I would think might influence absorption would be empty stomach after getting up in morning, meals, exercise, type of supplement (multivitamin, E, protein,and calcium for example) body at rest during evening/sleep.

It is best to take your vitamin supplements with a meal, since this is how vitamins/minerals are naturally found and will help with the absorption. Also, as far as vitamins go, opting for a powder form of C is going to be better absorbed by the body of tablet form.
As far as protein supplements after exercising is an optimal time to consume a mixture of lean protein (or supplement) and carbohydrates. Even simple sugars post exercise can be beneficial to help replenish gylcagen stores and help store nutrients.
