Thank you for your reply , it really helped . One question I have is that , I think I need to drop down a few lbs as quickly as possible , I was adviced by my physician to do that because I have great pain in the kneas and back , also I may be needing it physcologically ( that's why I've thought about the Atkins diet ) . I know you will tell me that losing weight fast , is not healthy , and you will gain it back fast . May be you are 100% right , but I really feel I need to do it . So waht is the safest alternative you'd suggest I should follow to do that ?
P.S. I've recently subscribed to eDiets.com for one year , kindly check out their site at www.ediets.com , they are suggesting 5 alternatives for dieting , and tell me wht do you think ?

My name is Nagla , I am a 33 years old female . All my life I've been suffering form obesity . All my life I've been trying tp lose weight with very little sucess . I am 240 lb/120 kgms .
I've learned earlier that bad nutritional habits has caused me to be hypoglycemic which causes physcological and mental disorder . For that reason , I was adviced to eat vegis and fruits as much as possible . The problem is that not only I don't like how fresh vegis taste but I am under the beleive that if I eat vegis and fruits I become more hungry , I simply calculate it this way: an apple conatins for ex. 50 cals but needs 150 cals for example to be digested , so I must feel more hungry afterwards , the same with vegis only they give lower calories and need more calories to be digested . Is this true ? or I am just driving myself away from completeing a diet . My worse part in a diet is the pain of hunger , when I am told to eat vegis , I say to myself it can make me more hungry .
I need your advice .
P.S. I am considering now to follow the Atkins diet which is low in carbs , is it ok for my hypoglycemic case ?

Hi Naglaa,
No, fruits and vegetables do not make you more hungry. In fact, they should do the opposite, make you feel full! The reason is that they contain lots of fibre, which although it is calorie free, has a lot of "bulk" to it. In other words, it takes up a lot of space in your digestive system.
Eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to promote weight loss, although these foods (or any other foods!) do *not* take more calories to digest than are in the actual food, despite the many rumors circulating that this is true.
I would strongly advise *against* the Atkins diet. High protein, low carb diets are not healthy for your body. You can read more about them, as well as some good strategies for weight loss, at www.thedietchannel.com. Another resource you might find helpful is the book Volumetrics by Barbara Rolls. It should be available at your local library.

If you need to lose some weight as quickly as possible for medical reasons, what I would recommend is to get your doctor to refer you to a Registered Dietitian in your area. You can then get in-depth, personalized counselling on what will be the best approach for you. A dietitian can examine your current eating habits in detail and help you make the necessary changes for successful weight loss.
I am not very familiar with ediets.com, I couldn't find the section you mentioned on alternatives to dieting. I did notice they are promoting the Atkins and Zone diets, which I don't recommend (again, you can check out thedietchannel.com to read about why they are not recommended diets). As mentioned above, a Registered Dietitian is your best resource for developing a successful, personalized weight loss program.
