QuestionI am a single father, have been for six yrs. My son is 15 yrs. old 5'7" and 235 and climbing. If I bring it to the house he eats it, when he's out I know he eats the same. What can I do? Family doctor maybe? I just don't know. He was on ritalin when he was younger 5 or 6 years ago -- seems like since I stopped that this all came about. Thanks for any help
AnswerFamily doctor is an excellent start and one I highly recommend! Make sure you are not dealing with any physical problems such as thyroid first. From there it would be a great idea to get a referral for a dietitian in your area that works with children of his age. They are never to young to LEARN about good nutrition and it can be very powerful when THEY are the ones learning and are empowered about eating a more healthy diet. Also keep in mind that YOU are a role model. If you eat healthy and are physically active you send an important message to your son. Since he eats whatever you bring into the house make sure you take a good look at what you are bringing in. Bring in healthy foods so that is what he has available to eat. Make sure he is an active kid and not a couch potato. Get out there with him and enjoy activities together!
Hope some of this may help you out!
