Question
I am 22 and have already lost about 15 pounds.  I was found to be hypothyroid and lost those 15 with no effort, after I started taking a thyroid supplement.  Now, I am wanting to lose about 15 more and basically be very fit.  I have always worked out sporadically and tried to eat somewhat healthy, but I need to know what to do to lose those extra 15 pounds.  I am 5'6 with a small-medium body frame and I now weigh 145.  What is the best way to drop these final pounds?  I have been going to the gym and working out, and have just felt rather frustrated with the results.  I am trying to up the amount of time i can run... right now I get on the treadmill and warm up for 5 minutes at 4.2-4.4, then I run for 15 minutes at 5.8, then I walk for 4.4, then I run for another 5-7 minutes at 5.5-6, then I cool down.  Then about 2-3 times a week I lift weights.  Is this a good way to drop those extra pounds?  Should I keep working up my pace and running for longer amounts of time or is it better to do the walk/run intervals?  Also, what are some healthy eating ideas to cut some calories.  I get sick of eating the same things over and over.  I'd appreciate any input you could give me.  Thanks alot!

Hi Mere,

You are off to a good start.  Aim at burning 500 calories on the treadmill or building up to it vs. a set time.  Visit www.toolsforlife.cc to determine your caloric requirements and subtract 500 calories per day from this number to lose one pound of fat per week.  There are also snacks, etc. there.  Let me know any other questions.
