QuestionI was told by my family doctor, that white bread is not good for consumption, because of how it is made. He stated the bleaching process used contains substances harmful to human health.
Is there any truth in his statement. I have researched it on the internet, and my findings were not very encouraging about the safety of white bread.
AnswerTom,
I really don't know of any findings that the FDA (Food and Drug Admin.) has found to this point on white bread as far as it not being safe for consumption. Careful of what you read on the Internet! Make sure the sites you are visiting are reputable. With any question on food itself, the FDA is probably your best source. (www.fda.gov)
As far as nutritionally, there is not much in white bread!! For better nutritional intake you are better off eating whole wheat or whole grain breads. They contain fiber, B vitamin, iron, etc... all of which is stripped away when flour is refined and made for white bread.
Hope that helps,
