QuestionI'm 52, 5' 10" and 175. I'm in great shape and have med proof, past body builder, now do yoga and aerobic activities.
Could always eat what I wanted and it didn't matter.
Now, time is catching up, I try not to eat after 7pm. Have always eaten a, mostly, healthy diet.
Very little red meat, lots of fish, poultry, free range and organic, little dairy, lots of fruits, veggies, Ezekiel bread, Barbara's shredded Wheat and light supplements. Centrum Silver, Omega 3 and CoQ10.
Portion control and timing are my problems with age. As long as I eat my large meals at breakfast and lunch, dinner finished by 7 and then quit, I feel great. But I crave in the evening. I've heard there are foods or food combos that help you feel satisfied longer, or is it all just discipline?
AnswerHello George!
Thank you for your nutrition question. The best way to battle food cravings is eating small frequent meals throughout your day. This way your body does not have a chance to go into starvation mode. Make sure to eat healthy snacks between meals such as nuts, fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy. These types of foods between meals will help you stay satisfied longer.
There is also a great supplement called Juice Plus which can help control cravings. Many of my patients have great results on it. It contains 17 fruits and vegetables and can be ordered from http://www.juiceblend.com Let me know if you need more information on it.
