QuestionHello,
I was just diagnosed with having a stress fracture, putting me out of commission for a while. Normally, I am a very active 25 year old, engaging in exercise every day and walking everywhere as I live in the city.
I weigh 124 pounds at five feet, four inches. I am trying to get down to 118.
What type of diet and how many calories should I be consuming while being in this sedentary state so that I do not gain any weight? Are there any exercises I can do at home so that I can maintain the work I have put into my strengh and cardio routines?
AnswerHello Rebecca!
Thank you for your nutrition question. Your current calorie intake with a sedentary lifestyle should be 1693 calories daily. Since you have had a stress fracture you should be eating foods which are rich in calcium such as milk, yogurt, almonds, beans, oranges, spinach, broccoli and canned salmon. Try incorporating these foods into your diet daily. There is also a great product called Juice Plus which I prescribe to my patients who have had stress fractures because it helps them recover quicker. It contains the nutrients needed for a quicker recover. Why not try it out until you are feeling better? The website is http://www.juiceblend.com Let me know what you think.
As for exercises I am giving you the following link with an entire list of exercises aimed for people who are sedentary. http://www.memorialhospital.org/Library/general/exercise-DeskBound.html
Hope this has helped.
