QuestionLaura,
I have a 6 year old son who weighs 70lbs. My doctor say that he is at a weight of an eight or nine year old and recommended that I cut back on food and get him exercising. My question is if it is safe for a 6 year old to lose weight? We have cut back on soda to one a day and restricted sugary snacks to special times but he has not lost any weight. do you have any suggestions?
thank you Tanya
AnswerTanya, don't worry it is OK for your son to lose weight, especially since he will be eating healthier while doing so. Soda and sugar snacks do contribute to obesity but so does macaroni, fruit juice, pasta, excess milk, excess bread, etc. These carbohydrate foods and snacks are broken down into sugars in the blood and if not burned off are easily turned to fat. Some kids can store fat easier than others. Your doctor should give you an eating plan to follow so you know what to feed him. Daily walking or some other exercise for at least 30 minutes is also a must. Good Luck, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
