Questionhi, i am 18 and i want to join the air force. ive been trying to get in shape for basic training, and i want to know what a simple eating plan for me could be. i tried looking at the cook book things, but theyre too complicated so i just bought slim fast meal replacers. i was eating special k cereal in the morning, a slim fast bar for lunch and like a sandwich for dinner and pretzels for snacks. however, id still be really hungry! what is a simple meal plan for me to help me be energized, full, and still be healthy and loose weight? also, was i not eating enough? oh and im 5'8 and 165 pounds. is this considered over weight? what is the best weight for me?
AnswerMeal replacement shakes, frozen dinners, etc. are just AWFUL and the highest form of diet scams there are! Well, except maybe for the 'meal replacement BARS' . Obviously you've discovered they do NOT fill you up and now, let me assure you, they do NOT fullfill your nutritional needs. You might as well have a Snickers bar and sugar free anything drink. In many cases, it's FEWER calories and a lot more enjoyable at about 1/10th the price. A multivitamin will round it all out.
Ridiculous huh?
Well, you can stop that stuff. Save your money and have that pizza you crave. Just order it without red meat and ask them to only use half the regular amount of cheese. Then, when you get it, limit yourself to just about two slices and make a giant side salad (use dark green lettuce, not iceberg or head lettuce) with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, radishes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, hot peppers, whatever you like (again, no red meats and let's skip the cheese here). Skip the bottled dressings except for the low fat/fat free; better yet, just salt and pepper it, add a couple tablespoons of olive oil (or soy, peanut or canola oil) and some lemon juice or wine vinegar or other flavored vinegars.
You'll be stuffed and eating healthy!
You can order that fast food chicken too, just pull the skin off (you will still get the flavor which is IN the meat). Sandwiches are great - keeping them free of full fat mayo or oily dressings - I've found that with a hot pepper relish, they don't NEED dressing. You can also spice it up with a half and half mix of low fat mayo and horseradish (can you handle it?). Sometimes just the veggies on it will do.
Try replacing all your snacking with some fresh fruit. This isn't as boring as you might think ! Slice a banana lengthwise and spread a couple TEASPOONS of peanut butter (or soy butter which is now my favorite!), stick it back together and you've got an incredible treat that really accents hair and skin when eaten regularly!
Use an apple instead of banana for a change. Or make a grab bag of orange, pineapple and grapefruit slices (be careful about using dried fruit as they are more calorie packed since the water is removed).
It's not so hard to be healthy WITHOUT spending your time, money and TRUST on the sleazy diet industry, which is OBVIOUSLY not working for anyone, except the owners and stock holders.
