I have had neck and back problems going on 10 years now. I recently started walking about 4 nights/week and quit eating snacks after supper. I have been doing this now since last November. I started slowly losing weight and firming up and feeling alot better. I am 5'7" tall, 34 years old, and did weigh 128-130 most of my adult life, between having my 3 children. Now I am down to 115lbs. I just slowly keep losing weight. Should I be concerned? I try to eat more healthy things and more of them, but still am losing weight slowly.

Candy,
You are on the low end of the weight range for your height. Are you eating enough calories in your diet? Maybe you could add some healthy snacks to your diet like fruits and veggies. If you feel that your diet is adequate in calories you may want to make a trip to the doctor. It may be that you have a thyroid problem (hyperthyroidism) that is causing your metabolism to speed up and therefore you are losing more weight.

I have tried more fruits and veggies. I've even had my thyroid tested and fasted and tested for diabetes. I test fine. However, one day when I started shaking and feeling bad, I let a friend test my sugar level on their machine. I tested a 64. I think 70 is considered low? Usually when I get to feeling this way, I drink orange juice and try to then eat something healthy like a banana, until I can eat something more. I have a psoriasis problem and get yeast infections, which I'm told can be caused from high-blood pressure or diabetes. I don't have high-blood pressure either. I am so frustrated on what to do. I don't want to lose too much weight, even though right now I do like where I am at. I just know that I can't lose anymore. I have started eating more later at night too. I am going to another doctor, OBGYN, in November. I also have night sweats, sweat more than others around me even during the day, even when others feel cold. I'm at a loss. I've been on the pill to help stay regulated, but have only had one period in the last 5 months. I used to have too many periods and too heavy of ones. Now, I am just the opposite. I just feel like I'm falling apart and that probably everyone around me thinks I'm crazy. I take neurontin, zoloft, loestrin FE, and nexium for reflux problems. Thanks for your time.
AnswerPsoriasis is not caused by highblood pressure or diabetes. It has a hereditary component but can also be an auto-immune response. The jury is still out on what actually is the cause. Yeast infections can be caused by a host of things.... too much antibiotic use, overgrowth of the fungus. Sometimes eating yogurt can help this problem. Some of your problems could be due to the meds you are taking. A lot of meds can alter your appetite and your metabolism. The sweating could probable be due to the neurontin, and the problems with your periods being irregular and also weight loss could be due to the zoloft... or all could be being caused by a combination of your meds. make sure that you mention ALL of your symptoms and concerns at your appt. in November. Your OB/GYN should be able to go over all your meds and assess whether these reactions are being caused by your meds. If you hadn't said that you already had your thyroid tested I would swear that your symptoms mimik hyperthyroidism... so if it's been a while since you've had a TSH done, ask to have it rechecked.
