Question Hello, I am just curious about something.
I have always done a little exercising, I lift weights and stretch, along with crunches. (3-5 times a week on average) I am also fairly active with daily activities, cleaning etc.
Recently my husband and I have been walking alot, a pedometer says I am walking about 9000 steps a day. (maybe more, we just got them) Our walks are on hilled roads, so they really use the muscle power at times.
I am a female,26 years old 5'6 145 pounds. I eat a regular diet, not too much fat etc.
Since my husband and I have been walking I have noticed the pound or two I sometimes gained from over indulging is non existant. I may have even lost a couple pounds.
I have been eating the same sometimes even more. Can walking really be this good for maintaning and losing weight?
Thanks.
AnswerHi R,
Walking can indeed be very effective for maintaining and losing weight. In fact, a variety of different health organizations have recently begun recommending a "10,000 Steps per Day" program, encouraging everyone to regularly walk 10,000 steps per day to help promote healthy weights and reduce risk of diabetes. At 9.000 steps, you're almost there- you might want to consider gradually increasing your goal up to 10, 000 steps per day.
Congratulations on developing this healthy habit!
