Question
and just how do vitamins actively get rid of acne?  i'd like to know the specific science behind it.  i already take multivitamins but not because they help fight acne.  how many ppl do you know cured their acne as a direct result of juice plus?

thanks,

Question -
hey,

how are you?  i had a question about diet restrictions while on acutane - it's an acne medicine that does stuff to my liver i think as a side effect.  my doctor didn't even look at me while i was in the office (like the whole time) and he says i can't eat fats while on this.  i said what?  and he goes well, not high content fats.  so he said no eggs, no butter, no cheese, and more stuff.

so here's my question.  isn't there an allowable limit to how much i can take and does it really matter how i get this content?  i could eat tons of meat and the amount of fat could be greater than a slice of cheese.  i tried arguing this with the doc but he wouldn't have it.

is there not some absolute value associated with this limit?  how does he already know that i'm eating too much without asking me what i eat, how i exercise, or even looking at me?  i said that but he said look, i'm the doc and you can't eat this.

i'm a student of science and a sports enthusiast.  i believe my needs and requirements are different from the average (in fact, most ppl as well) so i want to know what you think of this.  I am a male, 19, 5' 8", 146lbs, and exercise 4 times a week for at least 50mins.

another thing, i have to take a blood test to get all these quantities measured in my blood and it came back fine.  i asked my doc, so are these levels what i should maintain during the administration?  yes was the answer.  so why do i have to diet at all?  i eat good enough now don't i?

thank you for your time,
julian nam

p.s.  how long did it take to get your culinary arts degree?
Answer -
Hello Julian!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  It takes about 2 years to get a culinary arts certificate and then you just add on from there depending if you want to become a Masters Chef.
Doctors have different ways of evaluating why a patient should be on a medication and for how long.  It depends on your age, physical condition, and whether you are a good candidate. He wants you to eat healthy so that the medication works better and is more effective.
Since you are taking acutane why dont you try taking a supplement called Juice Plus that can also help cure acne?  It might be a more natural way to help cure it also.  It contains the nutrients from 17 fruits and vegetables and I believe it can really help you also.  Why not give it a try? The website for it is http://www.juiceblend.com  Let me know if you have questions about it.

Answer
Dear Julian,

Thank you for the follow up question.  In order to help cure acne you need the phytochemicals and antioxidants that are mostly found in fruits and vegetables. Fruits & vegetables are beneficial to curing acne because they also contain cleansing fibers. Juice Plus contains 17 fruits and vegetables so it is packed with these powerful cleansing nutrients.  I have several acne patients who have had great success using Juice Plus. One of my patients had severe acne on his back for years and has improved it significantly.   As a nutritionist, I believe this would be a great benefit to you. Let me know if you have more questions.
