QuestionGeorge, I am currently on a weight training program and would like to increase my size and strength without using a lot of supplements. I am also trying to increase my testoterone levels naturally. I am 44 yrs old. I would like to know if you have any input on calorie intake and or types of food to eat that can help. I am also suffering from my joints failing at the weight limits I am lifting and would like to know if there is anything I can take to help the joints strengthen. I am currently taking Magnesium and calcium and also glucosimine chondroitin for joints. Is there anything else you know of to help. Thanks, Mike
AnswerHello Mike!
Thank you for your nutrition questions. The best types of foods to fuel your workout are complex carbohydrates because they provide your muscles with a steady flow of energy. Examples of these types of foods are oatmeal, brown rice, "whole" wheat bagels/bread, whole wheat pasta, granola, and "whole" grain cereals. If you fuel your muscles with the proper food you will feel stronger and have a more effective workout. In addition your energy levels will be through the roof.
As for joint strength I would recommend a supplement on my website called Juice Plus which many of my athlete patients have had much success with. It contains the nutrients from 17 fruits, vegetables, and grains. This product would be perfect for you because the nutrients help to repair and strenghthen your joints during training. The website for it is http://www.juiceblend.com Let me know if you have anymore exercise questions. Hope this helps.
