Question-------------------------
Hi Susan. Thanks for the quick reply. The one thing you said that shocks me is that milk pulls calcium from your body.Is there any research that supports this? I love my skim milk!
Also, like I said,I cannot be bothered to cook for myself,so the advise to go with real foods,is falling on deaf ears,I'm afraid.
Okay, occasionally,I will microwave a sweet potato and some frozen veggies, but beyond that,I just cannot be bothered cooking for myself.
Thanks again!

Hello: I live alone, and do not cook anything fancy for myself. My diet consists of a can of vegetarian chili most weeknights, along with whole wheat bread, canola oil margarine, and skim milk.
On the weekends,I enjoy pasta and prepared tomato sauce.
I make a salmon salad or vegetarian ham sandwich for my brown bag work lunches.
Other than fish,I tend to avoid animal protein.
I will eat veggies if they are in front of me,but just cannot be bothered cooking them for myself.
I was wondering if I could benefit from a supplement that contains the equivalent of several different green vegetables. I have copied and pasted a description of one such product I found on the net(see below),so you know what I am talking about.
Thanks!
Vege Greens is a comprehensive combination of over 60 land, sea and cruciferous vegetables, as well as super green foods, EFAs, pre and probiotics, enzymes and herbal extracts. One small scoop is equivalent to six to eight servings of vegetables, and offers a full spectrum of nutrient-rich and highly alkaline foods.Professionally formulated and energetically tested, Vege Greens contains no artificial flavours, colours, or sweeteners, and no hidden ingredients.
With nine distinctive blends of green foods and plant extracts, Vege Greens supplies an extraordinary spectrum of nutrients ranging from the rare trace minerals found in sea vegetables to the health-enhancing compounds exclusive to cruciferous vegetables. The power of Vege Greens is due not only to the numerous individual nutrients that each blend contains, but also to the synergy between these blends. The collective action of all the nutritionally complex ingredients in Vege Greens creates a much more potent effect than the sum of its individual components.
GREEN FOOD CONCENTRATES
(barley greens, alfalfa, buckwheat, spinach, wheat grass, aloe vera, parsley) - These minerals assist in the absorption of calcium, regulate the transfer of minerals through the cell membrane, aid in the formation of bone, stimulate enzyme production and increase the biochemical activity of vitamin D.
SEA VEGETABLES
(spirulina, kelp, chlorella, dulse, green algae) - Contained within the cells of sea vegetables is a vast array of vitamins, essential fatty acids and rare trace minerals that are a result of the ocean's unique environment and conditions. Spirulina, the most abundant ingredient in this blend, is known for having extraordinary concentrations of vegetable protein, carotenes, chlorophyll, and vitamin B12, as well as phycocyanin, a powerful antioxidant found in the blue pigment of algae.3 This blend is also an excellent source of iodine, which normalizes thyroid function and balances our metabolic rate.
LAND VEGETABLES
(fermented soy, brown rice powder, carrot, beet root, olive leaf, celery) - In addition to being naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre, phytoestrogens and antioxidants, the land vegetable blend is designed to work in harmony with the other blends. Each specific ingredient has an array of unique nutritional properties that offer advantages above and beyond the other vegetable components. Carrots and beets are a source of carotenoids, nutrients with powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Fermented soy contains isoflavones, a family of phytonutrients with positive effects on hormonal balancing. Olive leaf has antiviral and antibacterial properties, while celery provides pthalides, an active compound that aids in the regulation of blood pressure.
CRUCIFEROUS VEGETABLES
(broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, watercress) - Cruciferous vegetables contain a number of powerful agents including sulforaphane, glucosilonates, and indole-3, which stimulate the natural detoxifying enzymes in our bodies. Research has shown that sulforaphane releases proteins that hunt down carcinogenic molecules in the bloodstream.5 Indole-3, because of its role in estrogen utilization, may help in the prevention of female-specific illnesses.
ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS
(lecithin, flax seed oil, borage oil, pumpkin seed oil, evening primrose oil, CLA) - Every living cell in our bodies requires essential fatty acids. They cannot be produced or synthesized internally, so their availability is completely dependent on the foods and supplements that we consume. EFAs play a role in everything from carbohydrate metabolism to proper immune system function, to brain and cardiovascular health as well as energy production. Evening primrose oil and pumpkin seed oil also have gender specific hormonal balancing properties.
PHYTONUTRIENTS
(acerola, quercetin, blueberry fruit powder, green tea extract, grape seed extract, bilberry, resveratrol, lycopene, lutein) - When exposed to free radicals, our bodies undergo a slow and deadly cellular degeneration. Exposure to them is unavoidable; free radicals are a byproduct of energy production and are found in sources as varied as sunlight, exhaust fumes, tobacco smoke and pesticides. Antioxidants are our primary line of defense as they neutralize the effects of free radicals. Vege Greens contains a potent combination of botanical extracts designed specifically to reduce the free radical damage associated with a contemporary lifestyle.
STANDARDIZED HERBAL EXTRACTS
(astragalus, cranberry, milk thistle, Siberian ginseng, ginkgo biloba, hawthorn, dandelion, nettle leaf) - This blend of standardized herbs is comprised of adaptogenic plant extracts, which help the body to adapt to the various environmental, physiological and psychological stresses that we encounter daily. In addition, each carefully selected herb works synergistically with the other ingredients to enhance the overall effect of Vege Greens. For example, astragalus and nettle leaf, along with the cruciferous vegetables, provide additional immune system support. Ginkgo and hawthorn work with the land vegetables and EFAs to improve circulation, cardiovascular health and mental acuity. Milk thistle and dandelion, in combination with the super green foods, detoxify and cleanse our blood stream and liver.
DIGESTIVE SUPPORT
(Probiotic blend, FOS, protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase, bioperine {patented piperine extract}) - For our bodies to reap the full benefit of the nutrients contained in the foods that we consume, those foods must first be digested and broken down into more easily absorbable forms. The digestive support blend in Vege Greens will do just that. Not only does it contain a specialized matrix of natural plant enzymes that break down the proteins, fats and carbohydrates that we consume, it also contains both pre and probiotics to help establish and maintain healthy intestinal flora. As well, bioperine, a patented piperine extract, has been included to enhance the passage and absorption of nutrients through the intestinal wall.
FIBRE BLEND
(apple pectin, oat bran powder, inulin) - Plant source fibre has a long-standing reputation for promoting regularity and relieving constipation, but it also helps to moderate appetite and stabilize blood sugar levels. In addition, dietary fibre accelerates the rate at which waste material passes through the digestive system, reducing the chance of putrefaction and the build-up of toxins. While many of the ingredients in Vege Greens are excellent sources of soluble fibre; apple pectin, oat bran powder and inulin have been specifically included to further enhance the elimination of unwanted materials including cholesterol and heavy metals.
Vege Greens powder is available in a 30-day supply (255g).

Hi Michael,
Good going to try to put some vavavoom in your diet, but go for real food. There is a gap in what products claim to have, and then, even if all that stuff is in there, if it is in a form your bod can use. There is calcium in milk, but in a form that actually pulls it out of your body and leaving, instead of adding any.

Get a bag of prewash lettuce, other than ice berg, open bag, dump contents on plate, drop of dollup of ranch, or whatever dressing on it. Slice a tomato in it. Maybe even plunk some coldcuts in it, like chuncks of cheese or tofurky. You will catch fewer colds, etc,
