QuestionBefore getting sick, I was an active 130 lbs. Then I got secondary progressive MS,peripheral neuropathy, and daily migraines and quit my job. The first two weeks I gained 20+ lbs. The dr told me to stop eating so much, but I wasn't. I ate maybe a granola bar every other day. I was to tired to eat or anything else. I think I gained due to sudden sitting (thats all) and my metabolism went from active to nothing. Now I weigh 165 lbs and am 5'4.I'm on Prednisone IV monthly and prn daily.I sleep a lot more than normal or sit. I did get my appetite back but only cook a meal maybe 2-3 times a week. Mainly eat fast whatever due to feet hurting and fatigue. I do snack on nuts, grapes, and bananas a lot. What kind of diet would be good to help me lose some weight? Thank you
AnswerTerri,
Because of your medical problems and medications I highly recommend you see a registered dietitian in your area that can sit down and work with you one-on-one. There is nutritional help for MS as well as your weight loss. A dietitian can help put this all together for you in one plan. I could not give you the type of help that you need nutritionally at this point through a few paragraphs and it wouldn't be fair to you for me to try!!
You can find a dietitian in your area by going to www.eatright.org and entering your zip code. My guess is that if you are able to get a doctor's order, depending on your insurance, you could get these visits covered.
Good luck to you!
