QuestionHow low calorie diet can you go before it becomes anorexia?
What are the sideffects of a really low calorie diet in terms of things like nausia or headaches? Say someone barely eats but what they eat is recommended healthy foods they drink plenty of water & take a good multivitamin, can they still be malnourished?
Are there different types of anorexia?
AnswerAnorexia is a mental illness; not a diet. Seriously, it's not about the calories or about weight or size. The people who TRY to develop this mental illness still end up with as serious a psychological condition as those who don't 'try'.
Sometimes anorexia is a side effect of other serious illness or conditions; many elderly may develop anorexia (some professionals believe it's because they can't smell or taste food like they used to, or should). Anorexia manifests itself different ways, like there are many forms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders regimens - there are many forms of demonstrating anorexia.
So, taking a multivitamin and drinking water won't cure or make anorexia any better than taking jellybeans will make a difference with schizophrenia.
The fact is, anorexia is the number ONE most fatal of ALL psychological disorders. People who survive (like me) usually end up with heart disorders that are permanent, bone loss that's permanent (I lost an inch in height), kidney and liver problems (yup, like me), and so much more fun stuff it's incredible! Even 30 years later. Oh, and once one develops this mental illness, it's pretty easy for it to recur and /or show itself in OTHER ways for a lifetime (like a 'regular' Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder that can literally cripple someone).
Then, of course, there's how it slows the metabolism down to the point of the body burning muscle, bone and organ tissue to create fat storeage for survival.
Now, if someone REALLY wants to lose weight - never have to diet or deny themselves anything - not think about it and still be slim - THAT'S easy! Oh sure, it took me well over 30 years to believe this, but once I actually committed to it, it took less than 3 months to SEE a difference and less than 6 months to lose ALL the weight I needed to lose (and I've been a size 4 ever since).
Take a look at my site and look at what anorexia really is (be careful, it's pretty graphic); and then look into DIETS CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN to see how to REALLY LOSE THE WEIGHT.
