QuestionI'm trying to combine the new food guide pyramid with a low calorie diet. I'm 280 lbs and plan to lose 100 lbs. I'm 21, female and right now I do below 30 minutes of physical activity. I plan to start doing 60 minutes of physical activity. I also plan on on reducing my caloric intake by 500 calories a day. I don't know how to begin.
I don't know if I should reduce the calories from what I plan on doing or what I'm doing now? How does the new pyramid help with weight loss? How do I determine how what amounts of each food group a day? Help!
AnswerHello Jasmine!
Thank you for your nutrition question. The New Food Guide Pyramid called "MyPyramid" gives more clear information on portion sizes and calorie requirements. When you go to http://www.mypyramid.gov you enter your health information and it will tell you how many calories you should eat daily. You then should subtract 500 calories from this number so that you can lose 1lb per week.(500 x 7 days= 3,500 calories -which is one pound)
There is a great supplement called Juice Plus on my website that I believe can really help you with weight loss goals. It contains the nutrients from fresh fruits and vegetables which help your body burn calories more efficiently. It also helps you crave healthier foods. Many of my patients have had great success with Juice plus. Why not give it a try for 4 months and see the results? The website to purchase it is http://www.juiceblend.com
