what do i need?

Question
Hi, I am 18 and am simply wondering if you could tell me what things are really important for me at this time in my life, with regards to exercise, foods, vitamins, etc. I really want to get some better habits with regards to being healthy. I am 130 lbs. I would like to lose some fat (I'm not fat, but I do have stomach fat and love handles). I am a big snacker, so that's where a lot of the 'bad foods' (chips, cookies, crackers, etc.) come from. I've tried to get into an exercise routine, but something else always overrides that designated time. I would really like to exercise though. Is there anything you can tell me, any advice? Or maybe a site that can tell me stuff? Thank you for your time! I appreciate it!

Answer
Robyn,
Eating healthy and getting a healthy start early in life is so important.  The best way to start is with the basic food groups.  You can find some help with that at:
http://www.mypyramid.gov/
Snacking can be a part of a healthy diet IF you snack on the right foods.  You need to really cut back on high calorie, high fat, high sugary foods and replace them with healthier foods from the basic food groups such as fruits, vegetables, low fat yogurt, nuts, etc...  Exercise is also a big part of being healthy and maintaining a healthy weight.  Find something you really enjoy.  Exercise doesn't have to be going to a gym!  It can be swimming, dancing, biking, rollerblading, playing sports, etc...  If you find something you enjoy you will be more likely to stick with it.
Here is another great site that will help you out:
