Answer
As a med student you have a lot of pressure. Moreso than most other studies. Research has repeatedly found that the students with the highest rates of anorexia - are med students. Why? It's a 'control' issue. Anorexia is commonly misclassified, usually by laymen, as an "eating disorder"; however, it's actually a psychological disorder (the number ONE most fatal of ALL psychological disorders).

Well, with that said, you could very well be experiencing early body dysmorphic disorder as a result of the pressures and stress of your studies. This too is a psychological disorder and can frequently lead into manifestations such as anorexia. You can't control the pressure, the worries, the unbelievable competition - so you begin to look at yourself with a far too critical eye. Hmmmm, what can you control? Your body. Your food. And how well you control it can be measured with a scale or tape measure.

You are, in effect, your own professor and grader. Of course you'll be killing yourself, but in the throes of anorexia (I've been there myself a few times) you really won't care. It won't mean a thing to you - you'll be overwhelmed and consumed by numbers (calories, weight, size, measurements) and control.

So. Before it takes you, find another outlet. Spare time? Volunteer somewhere - do something that makes a difference. The great thing about volunteering is that you make your own schedule! Choose something with children, the eldery, the environment or animals. Get AWAY from your studies for a couple hours a week - and have a new focus rather than on what you look like.
Take up painting, ANY art form - we all have a talent - we just have to dig for it sometimes. And even though you might think you don't (probably because you've tried sometime in the past and perhaps failed), doesn't mean you can't try again and succeed. Believe me - I also know this first hand too! I spent my life saying I had no artistic talent, wasn't 'crafty', couldn't do this or that...and you wouldn't believe what I do now!  And even sell some of my pieces !

How about writing a book? A novel? Heck, just a journal! Post a blog on the net - get involved in eating disorder support groups at your school, in your community - just DO...don't 'think'.

Check my site for more information on eating disorders, what volunteer needs are posted in your specific city/area and how, exactly, to eat right!
