QuestionI just ordered your program. My 5 yr old daughter LOVES to eat. She is tall for her age but overweight at 80+ lbs. She will eat pretty healthy, she doesn't like salad or most veggies. She loves apples and fruit. We don't keep white bread, chips, or candy in the house. Still, she asks about food all of the time. Even during trick-or-treat she was concerned she missed dinner. The first thing she mentions in the morning is breakfast. She asks for dessert after every meal. She begs to go out to dinner because she knows she'll usually end up with some fries. It's like she is never signaled that she is full. She will eat adult size portions. I don't how to deal with the mental aspect of her eating. She is quite active and plays softball and gymnastics and has a trampoline. I have a 2 yr old also and a house to take care of so I can't play with her every hour of the day. If she has any downtime she asks about food. If we eat a late lunch (2:00) she'll still be ready for dinner at 5:30. Any advice outside of the program would be great. We had her bloodwork done last year and everything was fine.
AnswerKelly, your 5 year old has learned her eating behavior from someone in the house, so the entire household has to start watching what they eat. Smaller more frequent high fiber meals will help her to feel fuller. Limit milk and fruit to three times a day, that includes fruit juice. The program will show you the average size portions she should be eating, you can spread that food out to make 5 meals instead of 3. Limit fast food to twice a month, and try to walk with her everyday for at least 30 minutes. After being on the program for a month, you will start to see eating patterns that you can hopefully correct for long term weight control. Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
