QuestionHi George,
Thank you for such a complete answer. Can I have your opinion on 2 followup questions, so that
I don't waste food (and time) by experimenting?
1. What if I substitute the peanut oil with either organic butter or olive oil?
2. What if I substitute the white bread with sprouted whole wheat bread?

Hi George,
Is there much nutritional value in French toast, using all natural,
organic bread, eggs, etc.?
Thanks,
Jona
Answer -
Hello Jona!
Thank you for your nutrition question. French toast does contain some nutritional value such
as protein from the eggs and 2 grams of fiber from the bread. Here is a recipe complete with the
nutrition analysis for french toast at the bottom.
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups skim milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
peanut oil, as needed
8 slices bread
1. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla until thoroughly mixed.
(This can be done ahead and refrigerated overnight.)
2. Heat a well-greased griddle or large frying pan with peanut oil until hot but not smoking.
3. Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture until moistened. Place the soaked slices on the
griddle. Discard any excess egg mixture.
4. When the bottoms are golden brown, flip with a spatula and brown the other side. Keep them
in a warm oven until ready to serve.

AnswerDear Jonah,
It would be fine to use peanut or olive oil since they are both unsaturated "good" fats which are better for cholesterol levels. Butter would have more saturated fat "bad fat" and would not be as healthy.
Whole wheat bread would be a better choice then white bread because it contains more fiber which helps keep a healthy digestive tract.
