QuestionI would like to know how many grams of protein you get pero ounce of chicken if it differes when cooked or raw. When is the best time to weight a portion of chicken to know how much grams of protein your going to get from that meal. The reason why I ask is that I'm going to start counting my calories in a diet I intend to start.
Supposedly its 7grams of protein per ounce. But
When you cook a breast it gets smaller and smaller the more you cook it.
I tend to wonder, an 8oz breat that turns into a 5oz or less when its roasted too how much protein does it have. Which number do I multiply by 7?
I have cooked and uncooked grams of macronutrients for legumes, but not for poultry.
Allot of a breasts weight seems to be water, when you roast and thaw out depending on what time you let it thaw lets out more and more liquid even if you thaw once, refrigerate and thaw out again. Then in the oven it will continue to let out liquid/fat.
Thank you for your time!
AnswerHello Michael!
Thank you for your nutrition question. You would mulitiply the number of ounces by 7 after you have cooked the chicken.
How much the chicken shrinks depends on cooking method and moisture content. For example, 100g of RAW chick is ~22 g protein. However, if you're measuring AFTER cooking, 170 g of RAW chicken cooks down to about 100 g COOKED. This is why it's necessary to measure afterwards. So 100 g COOKED, is 150 cals, and just over 30 g. protein.

Hope this helps.
