QuestionI'm a 15 year old male who recently lost quite a bit of weight. I went from about 200 to 160 in 4.5 months. I was always a bigger guy, and my bones reflected that. I noticed that my tailbone has been protruding through my skin. I get no pain from it unless I sit directly on it. I know you're not supposed to give medical advice and the like, but can you at least confirm that this possibly could happen among a person who lost a good deal of weight?
Thank you.
AnswerDear Samuel, the bad thing about losing a lot of weight fast, is you inadvertently lose muscle along with the fat. Sounds like you reduced your buttock muscle causing your bone to protrude. You might try to build up your muscles with weight lifting, bike riding, or other exercises that use the large muscles. Nothing else you can do about it, genetics plays a role in how your body is made. Chances are one of your parents has the same type of tailbone. If it really bothers you see a doctor.
