QuestionHi I am a 23 year old female and I just started to take up ballet again. I was wondering what kind of foods should I take more often to improve my flexibliity and to strengthen my muscles. Although I am young I feel like my body is old especially when it comes to ballet where starting young is preferred. I've stopped eating fast food and drinking only water (no sodas, alcohol etc..), but I'm not sure what foods are best for me to improve ballet performance (ie.. flexiblity and muscle strengthening). I want to strengthen my muscles without making them big and and muscular looking. Is there any additional vitamins etc... you can recommend to take?
AnswerHello Kat!
Thank you for your nutrition question.
Congratulations on taking up ballet! You are correct that you must eat right in order to stay flexible. Here are my tips to help you stay in shape:
-Replenish fluids early and often. Even if you don't think you are thirsty-drink!
-Caffeine drains your body fluids.
- Eat less animal foods.
-Eat lots of fruit and vegetables.
-Eat 3 small meals a day with healthy snacks in between. This will help to keep your energy levels steady.
-Variety is important. Stay away from fast food places.
