QuestionI have been trying o find health ways to increase protein consumption in my diet naturally to augment my weight training, but to not make me gain more fat.
Currently I eat Kashi "go lean" cereal with blueberries every morning and have some form of protein with vegetables for dinner. I also have some high fiber fruit and veggies snacks throughout the day to keep my metabolism going.
I am trying to find a health protein solution for lunch and was thinking about using edamame.
I have however heard that there is estrogen in edamame and eating it more the once a week can be dangerous.
AnswerShai,
Many people in Asian countries eat 20-50 times as much soy as Americans. Asians tend to have much lower rates of heart disease and cancers.
Most experts feel that you cannot get too much soy from the foods you eat. However, if you take a soy "supplement" then there may be some questions.
My advice; eat as much edamame as you like. Also, feel free to try tofu and any other food made from soy beans. There is almost no way you could eat too much. Lastly, avoid "supplements" unless you talk with your doctor or a qualified dietician.
Best wishes.
