QuestionWe have a large amount of smoked salmon left over from a catered event. We have been eating it every night for dinner. Is it dangerous, with all of the contaminants in fish these days, to eat salmon every night for over a week?
AnswerHello Christina!
Thank you for your nutrition question. If the salmon is wild salmon(not farm raised) it is alright to eat it every night because like all fish, salmon is highly nutritious. With around 9g of fatty acids per 100g serving, it is rich in Omega-3 series Essential Fatty Acids necessary for optimum health and lowering cholesterol.
Salmon also provides important vitamins and minerals. Vitamin A is important for the immune system and helps to maintain healthy skin, hair, nails, bones and teeth. Thiamin (Vitamin B1) prevents the build up of toxins while Niacin (Vitamin B3) contributes to a healthy digestive system. Other B vitamins, folate, calcium, iron and magnesium can be obtained by ensuring that at least two portions of fish, one of which is oily, are consumed every week (as recommended by the Food Standards Agency).
