QuestionHello George,
I am 27 years of age, my weight is 70 kg and my height is 173cm. I have been regularly doing sports through out my life. this is a rough idea to my physical fitness level. i can do 13 chin ups, 40 push ups and 10 handstand push ups. recently i started working out 5 to 6 times a week. I am trying to reach 80kg. but it's proving to be almost impossible. after gaining 2 or 3 kilos max. i start loosing them very quickly. on the hand i strongly want to carry on working out aggressively and progress fast. please HELP. And many thanks in advance for your time and advice.
AnswerSometimes it's just a matter of genetics. If you find other men in your family were the same build as you at about the same time in life, it's not going to be easy to alter. Nature wants to keep you this way, the best you can hope for a temporary change, like you've found (you quickly lose the weight).
The more muscle you develop, the higher your metabolism is. You need to increase (healthy) food intake at the same time you increase work outs. Choose things like lean meats, low fat dairy or soy products, fish, poultry, beans/legumes.
Choose whole grains every chance you get. Add nut butters to breads (peanut butter, soy butter, almond butter, etc).
