AnswerHello Pamela!
Thank you for your nutrition question. Congratulations on your recent weight loss. The amount of energy or calories packed into food turns out to be just as important as the amount of fat grams in food.
To lose weight, it has been suggested that a woman needs about 20 to 30 grams of fat per day. Men probably need about 50 to 60 grams. If you are more comfortable counting calories, a 30 to 40 fat gram count is about 1,200 to 1,500 calories for weight loss. Never lower your fat intake below 20% of your total daily intake or your calorie intake below 1,000 calories. Your body will suffer from the lack of necessary nutrients if you do. I would also suggest purchasing a pocket calorie counter, which usually includes the nutritional breakdown of your favorite fast food restaurants. They are available at most bookstores.
