Questionis it safe to take 3 or 4 pills of cla with
1,000 omega 3 every day?
AnswerThe Omega 3 should be limited to one as a supplement to getting the real thing, which the body processes much better (and uses more efficiently). The CLA ? Well, you may as well be having a few jellybeans.
The body DOES need conjugated linoleic acids and the promising studies surrounding them (which prompted the charlatans to start promoting them all over the place!) have not really been completed OR proven. They also generally use 'natural sources' of CLA, such as:
fatty foods from ruminant animals such as full fat milk and dairy products and fatty meats. It's been found that the CLA content of these foods can be increased by the amount of plant oils high in linoleic acids (such as sunflower and soyabean oils) in cow feed. This has been shown to increase the CLA content of milk. In addition, cows grazing pasture increases the CLA content of milk, especially when the grass is at an early growth stage.
The investigation into human needs has so far found no dietary recommendations; the biggest caution is that the 'bad things' that might occur with high levels haven't even been explored.
I'm a big supporter of eating right and getting all nutritional needs from food sources. It's served our species well - AND serves all other species well. It's only after we complicate things with high fats, processed junk and fast foods that we get sicker and fatter.
