QuestionMy daughter is tested allergic to wheat (not specifically oat), I have been trying to find out if oat is also a wheat product family, so I can substitute oat for wheat use. If anyone can give me some specific answers to this question, I will greatly appreciate it.
AnswerOat is not wheat, however, due to different manufactures and the way they manufacture products sometime oat can be contaminated with wheat. So most of the time oat is not recommended because of this.
Your best bet is to have yourself and your daughter instructed by a dietitian. An allergy to wheat can be tricky if you are not sure what foods do and don't contain it. A dietitian can instruct you and answer all of your questions. I would either ask the doctor that diagnosed your daughter for a referral to a dietitian or find one in your area that can help. You are best to find a dietitian with experience in this specific area.
