Question
Ok?  That just doesnt seem to add up...for instance, although the half cup of fruit is more condensed than the orange, it can't be more condensed than the apple.  And even the orange seems like it has a larger fruit serving than a half a cup of fruit.

So its really about 5 whole fruits (since that's mostly what I eat and a good way to estimate) a day?

a couple bananas, an orange, a pear and an apple will do for one single day?  Wow that sounds like alot!

And it's about the same amount for vegetables?  (I guess you just gave an implied answer but I want to double check since it's mind blowing)

Question -
What are the general recommendations for eating fruits/vegetables?

I dont want ounces just estimates...for example is a pear, and apple and an orange enough for one day of fruit and maybe a little more than that for vegetables?

I weigh about 168 in case that matters

Answer -
Hello Jeff!

Eating five or more servings a day of fruit is the recommended amount. And one serving is less than many people think.

One serving is:

One medium fruit, such as an apple, banana or orange.

1/2 cup cut-up fruit, such as fruit salad.

1/4 cup dried fruit, such as raisins, prunes, apricots or dates.

3/4 cup or 6 ounces fruit or vegetable juice, such as grapefruit or tomato.

1/2 cup raw or cooked vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower or zucchini

1 cup raw, leafy vegetables, such as romaine or green leaf lettuce

Answer
Dear Jeff,

It is really about whole fruits and not measuring ounces.  I would recommend that you check out www.mypyramid.gov where you can create a healthy eating plan designed specifically for your weight.  When you enter your age, gender, and activity level it will give you a complete menu of foods and portions.
