QuestionCan you give me an idea as to what I should feed my kids portion wise and food group wise.
My hubby and I are at odds. He is a junk food junkie, and I'm semi-vegitarian and eat very healthful (fruits, veg, protein and whole grains)
We constantly fight about this issue. I don't want my kids eating junk, and I feel I'm penalized for not wanting them to eat brownies etc that offer no nutrition.
I have a 4 yr old and a 21 mo old. They both are very good eaters and eat a ton. During meals they ask for more and more and I just keep feeding them fruits and vegs etc. In my opinion they eat too much, but I figure just keep on giving them foods in their most natural state.
Thanks for any input you can give me.

AnswerDear Tammy, If you have the genetics for obesity in the family, then you should limit the sweets and other junk food. If both sides of the family are thin, then your kids should eat till they feel full. Most kids with thin genetics, know when to stop eating. Nutrition wise, your foods are healthier. They can't live on fruit and vegetables alone though, they do need protein foods too. A fortified cereal in the morning, or a multivitamin will insure their vitamins are complete. Kids need almost as much calories as an adult, so don't worry about portions, just feed them what you eat. The food triangle found on many cereal boxes, is a guide to show you the portions of the healthy foods needed on a daily basis. Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
