QuestionHi, I am a 16 year old girl and I am wanting to lose weight. I am not dramatically obese or anything but am still overweight. My BMI is overweight for my height and I obviously realise that I am. I partricuarly carry my weight on my stomach which is my main fat area. I have been slightly overweight or 慶hubby?for the majority of my childhood. Iam about eleven stone, and would like to lose about a stone. However the most important to me is not having a belly. I know that you probably receive a lot of similar questions from teenagers who do not need to lose weight but think they do due to media pressure, but I realise this pressure which I hope will make you realise that I genuinely do require to lose a few pounds for my own happiness and health.
I play a lot of sport and exercise a lot, so it is not that part which is stopping my weight loss. Last year I had a long-term injury which meant I could not exercise for six months and put on weight. When this recovered I cut out most of the junk food from my diet to lose weight and lost that which I had put on.
That was a few months ago and have continued eating well, even though I am a fussy eater so my diet is limited choice. To give you an idea a typical day of my diet would be:
Breakfast: 3 x weetabix and raisins
Snack: Banana
Lunch: Soup, Roll, Apple
Snack: Yoghurt or Cereal Bar or Cereal
Tea: Jacket Potato, baked beans, chicken breast or macaroni cheese and a roll. With something like a yoghurt or low fat custard.
However, despite frequent exercise and eating this I have not been losing any weight or more importantly, reducing my stomach. I am just baffled as to why I have not been losing weight and am beginning to become incredibly disheartened. I have been to see my doctor and he was very unhelpful and just told me to eat food from each of the food groups and plenty of fruit and veg, which I already knew. Please helkp me! How can I lose weight and why am I currently not for the last weeks/months? And if you think it is something to do with what I am eating any idea of diets I could eat instead?
Thank-you
Lucy
AnswerLucy, You are eating a lot of carbohydrates in your diet. Rolls, mac and cheese, yogurt, bananas are examples. Try instead a higher protein diet like eggs, low fat meats, high grain or high fiber bread, low fat dairy, fish, tuna fish, chicken, and lean meat, and loads of vegetables. Continue to exercise every day. Seek the help of a trainer to work on the areas you are concerned about. Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
