Weight Loss, Fat Loss, Carbs, and Fats

Question
I am a 26 year old female whose present weight is 213. I am 5'10 an should weigh no more than 174 lbs. For almost a month, I have been lifting weights as well as power walking up hills, and have greatly improved my diet by cutting back on sweets, starches and junk, and increasing my raw vegs and fruits intake, as well as lean meats. However, I have gained five pounds and though I feel better, my scale will not move, (at least backwards). What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Dear Dominique,

It looks like you light want to:

1. Figure out what kind of weight you gained: fat or muscle. To do this, go to http://dietandbody.com/plan/measuring.html (it's free) and use the calculator to measure your body fat.

2. You might eat too much carbohydrates from your fruit while not eating enough of good fats (oils, nuts, seeds, avocados, and fatty fish)

3. To put all this together, while visiting the fat measuring page, take a look at the entire program and how it works at http://dietandbody.com/banta/start/index.htm -- and of course navigate from there to read the basics. It's also all free.

Hope it helps,
