QuestionI was wondering is it okay for my 5 year old 58 lbs. to have an occasional slim fast. Some mornings we are late for school etc. I am not doing this to make him lose weight. I started on slimfast for breakfast and he liked them to. Our usual breakfast is Cereal or waffles. If he likes it and asks for it is it wrong? I think he just thinks it is chocolate milk. Is there anything harmful for kids in it I really only allow it every other day or so. Thank you so much.
AnswerDear Jennifer, You should contact the Slim Fast company through their website. As far as I know, there is no program for children or teens with the Slim Fast program, so for me to say it's OK would be out of my expertise. Next time you are at a store you should compare the label with a Carnation instant breakfast to see if it's the same. I think Carnation Instant breakfast is OK for kids. You said he thinks it's chocolate milk. Drinking chocolate milk for breakfast is not a great habit to promote. I like the idea of a low sugar cereal with low fat milk, or egg and toast as breakfast choice. That is a much healthier choice in the long run. Hope that helps. Sincerely, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
