QuestionMy husband and I are on a plan that calls for you to eat 5 to 6 times a day. It is planned out how much of each type of food to eat and the different meals during the day. We have been exercising and doing the plan just as it says to and have lost a lot of weight and inches we are both down 6 clothes sizes and are feeling great! We however, have made only on adjustment on the plan and that is to use a soy protein drink that we mix with water twice a day when we have our snack. We have a drink and veggies or drink and fruit. The rest of the time for our protein we are using bison, elk, venison, and some chicken.
My question is: is the soy protein powder ok to use on a continuous basis for our snack. We were vegetarians before we started this plan because I had such a hard time digesting beef, eggs, milk, and sometimes chicken. We tried the whey protein powder and it upset me so we switched to the soy. I have no problems with it.
Some reports say soy is good for you but, I had heard recently that soy causes breast cancer in women and that soy wasn't good for humans to eat.
Please help I'm terribly confused now. We get our protein powder from GNC.
AnswerHi Karen
As long as your able to supplement with some protein you are on the right path. Whey just happens to be a better quality protein. Like gas,soy would be regular and whey would be the super or premium."Scientific research continues to demonstrate that substituting soy protein for some or all animal proteins in the diet can lead to beneficial health effects in the area of cholesterol lowering, reduction in coronary heart disease (CHD) risk, relieving women's health concerns, maintaining bone health and potentially protecting against certain forms of cancer."
