QuestionI am looking for recommendations on the best heart healthy chocolate to very moderately enjoy. Looking for low fat, low sugar etc. suggestions.
Have moderate plaque issues...I currently enjoy a very healthy diet and have done so with exercise for the past 25 years (age-63).....appreciate any specific products (cocoa based) that you would personally recommend.
Thank you
AnswerDear Bob,
My recommendations would depend on the exact healthy diet you are currently on. Low fat is one thing and I don't think there's an enjoyable low fat variety of dark chocolate (and only dark chocolate has proved health benefits) -- at least I failed finding them.
However, if you are on a low carb or good carb eating plan, which, by the way is gaining official medicine recognition for its heart protecting long term effects, then you indeed can enjoy very healthy (from this particular standpoint) kinds of chocolate. Look for at least 80-percent dark cocoa-based brands without artificial sweeteners.
One more option is homemade candies and cookies, but to give you recipes, I need to know your preferences, fat-wise and carbohydrate-wise.
