QuestionOK I am at the end of my rope and do not know what else to do.
I Began the South Beach diet 3 years ago in the first year I lost 90 lbs going down
to 200lbs. I joined Curves and have been working out 4 days a week. At that point I
hit a wall and could not lose any more no matter how strict I was. This went on for
about 6 months at this point I gave up. At that point I gained back 30lbs. Last June
I went back on Phase 1 and have lost the 30lbs then hit the wall once again. In fact
I can be 199 one day and 204 the next even on days I am stricktly in Phase 1. I have
Cut my Curves workout back to Mon,Wed,Fri and am at the gym Tues,Thurs,Sat 1 hour on
the treadmill walking at 3.5 mphs heart rate 75 to 80 percent range.
I am taking medicatin for low thyroid, as well as glucapage for prediabetic symptoms.
A typical day would look like
5:30 am protien bar on way out the door to gym
8:30 Breakfast Low fat low sugar yogart with 1 serving nuts mixed in
or
2 boiled eggs
2x weeks Old fashioned Oats with no sugar and one serving pecans mixed in or 1
teaspoon peanut butter mixed in
10:30 1 String Cheese
1:00 Lunch Lean meat (chicken or beef or pork loin) Raw Red bell pepper, or
broccille or greenbeans or yellow squash or a Grilled Chicken Salad no dressing
3:00 celery with PButter or nuts if none for breakfast, or a Southbeach protien bar
Supper same as lunch
So where do I go from here. I refuse to believe that I can not lose under 200 lbs
but no longer trust I am making good choices.
AnswerHello,
Generally speaking, the most common reason for South Beach diet plateau is that the body adapts to the carbohydrate limitation and to further cutting down on them can be reacquired -- though will it then be South Beach diet?
For a person with prediabetic symptoms, a stricter carb limitation is usually a better way. You might want to learn more about both SBD plateau and the metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment.
