QuestionMy 15 daughter at the advise of my 28 year old daughter, is currently on the Dr. Atkins Diet. My 15 year old is 5'5 and weighs about 170 lbs. What is your opinion of a teenager being on this diet. My concern is she wont be getting the nutrition and vitimins that she needs. I mean , NO MILK, therfore no calcium, it just seems that as a teenager her body requires alot of things that Atkins diet says you can not have. Thank you in advance for your time.
AnswerDear Irene, The Atkins diet is not a bad diet to follow, in my opinion. Kids who follow a low carb diet, lose weight and stay motivated longer. They also get less hungry, which allows them to stay on a healthy eating program. Ask your daughters doctor about what supplements you can provide for her to cover any nutrients she might need while following such an eating plan. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
