suppliments?

Question
Hello Simon and thank you from one AllExpert (real estate) to another.

I'm a 54 y/o male in according to my long time physican and yearly physical, in good health.  I have never been fond of formal exercising though have spend thousands on partially used health club memebership over the years.

I've recently relocated to Cabo san Lucas and have discovered a new found desire to shed unwanted weight.  I'm 5'8 and about 215 now - all time high recently was 225.

I've joined and am going every other day the local gym - and it doesn't hurt my motivation that some of the local 'dancers' also belong -
so for about 1.5 hours, 30 min of cardio and then weight lifting I do my time and have come to enjoy it.  I begin the day with good cereal and skim milk and banana.  During the day I have an apple or two, 3-6 10 oz bottles of water, a low fat lunch and if dinner, it's before 8pm and is home cooked.  Alcohol has lost it's appeal and so it's mostly non existant unless I have guests visit, even then it's not too excess.

I think I am on the right track.  My question is that as I read my Men's Health, there are continuing articles - advertisements for every suppliment under the sun with claims of speeding up the 'fat burning' process and of the benefit of protein shakes after workouts.

My ultimate goal is a "BowFlex' body, - I'
ve no interest in attaining a muscle beach, cartoon physique and think I'm being realistic in setting this goal.

Are there any real products out there that will deliver real results when combined with sensible eating and exercise?

thank you,
Rick

Answer
Rick,

Excellent well thought out question. Thank you for the background as that saves me a lot of time in my response.

It sounds like you a largely on the right track - including apparently enjoying life. So many health professionals over-look the health value of 'having fun'.

To your question about supplements. Let me first disclose that I have affiliated myself with a high quality nutrition company. As a research scientist I did my homework and found a company to have impeccable scientific standards throughout discovery, development and manufacturing.

You are right to evade the 'quick fix' products that litter the airwaves and look for a good all-around supplement.

You can check out the products that I recommend at http://www.healthcoachgroup.com - look at the 'Essentials' product. I know these products ship to Mexico with no problems.

If you don't want to take my word for it and want to do your own research I recommend a book called 'the comparative guide to nutritional supplements' by Lyle McWilliam that surveys the quality of most mutlti-vitamin products in North America. This is an unbiased study of 1500 products and scored based on a panel of nutritional experts, some of which have competing interests with each other - so it's a good blend to remove bias.

You will find that the #1 product in this study are those I am recommending - but there are other good products as well. Unfortunately the vast majority of supplements on the market are not of good quality.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact me with any others.
