QuestionHi!
I am 48,in good health, quite active(I exercise almost daily) but chubby.
I have always eaten less than 1500 calories.
Sounds low,but I have a 'slow metabolism'(I think-my thyroid checks out OK) and if I eat more I gain.
I never ate breakfast-just coffee, and always had light snacks between meals-still counting calories.
This week I forced myself to have one piece of ww toast for brekky, and NO snacks between meals-especially after supper.
I think I have lost I bit-I feel and look a bit trimmer(I dont have a scale).
What gives? Same calories just different eating habits.
AnswerHi Barry,
You are right! Habits or different ways of eating lead to different metabolic types. For instance, if you control carbohydrates, your metabolism switches to the fat-based metabolic mode and in this mode, eating breakfast to speed up your metabolism is not that important. If however you eat carbohydrate-rich foods, you must eat rather frequently. there are reasons for that (see references below.)
Plus, your metabolism is not the same when you have your calorie balance as the result of 'eating more and burning more' versus 'eating less and spending less' approaches.
