QuestionI gained an extra 20 pounds (on top of the 35 I was supposed to gain) during pregnancy. It has been six months and I still have that 20 pounds to lose before getting to my pre-pregnancy size. (Pre-pregnancy 145, 5'7"). This week, I've tried only eating a big lunch, sometimes breakfast, and no dinner except a quaker ricecake. I lost 2 pounds this week. My excersize is walking around the block two-three times a week. I still feel like I have a layer of water weight all over my body and my tummy sticks out. Do you have any other suggestions? Will this skipping dinner thing hurt my body? It is the only thing working so far.
AnswerTamara, keep reminding yourself that it took you 9 months to gain this weight - and it can take at least that to lose it. Not everyone has personal trainers and watchdogs to measure meals and serving sizes like the stars do. It's not common for women to bounce back like they may make it seem.
As for how you're eating - you know it's not good. The weight you think you're losing is most likely just fluids and won't be permanent. In fact, nearly 100% of all dieters will re-gain ALL the weight they lose PLUS 20% more once they go off the diet. Hardly worth it is it?
The walking is a great exercise - keep it up by parking the car as far away from building entrances as you can get (no matter what the weather is) and making extra trips around the house. If you find an excuse to get up, then get up.
You absolutely NEED breakfast. Did you know that regular breakfast eaters (especially if they have whole grains like oatmeal, oat flakes, shredded wheat or many other cereals) - weigh less than non breakfast eaters and this is without 'extra' efforts?
By cutting back too much you could be triggering a biological response to famine. Your body is retaining water for survival AND could be burning muscle for fuel in order to hang on to fat storage. The less muscle, the lower your metabolism. The lower metabolism, the easier to gain weight - and you're in a terrible loop!
Because there's no room here for the food outline, I've got it at my site (it's all free, no products, no ulterior motives) - just click on the scales when you get there:
