Questionhi, i am recovering from anorexia and i do count calories, though i know i shouldn't. i weigh roughly 92 lbs right now and am 5'2''. i want to get up to 102 but only a pound or two a week. how many calories a day do i need to do this if i hardly do any activity? i eat very healthy and very often... i am probably at 1700-2000 a day now. but i am scared to go back to my overeating ways and need numbers to help me in the beginning. please help!
AnswerI've also been anorexic (at last count, four times, but I'm considerably older than you are). NO NO NO numbers. No scales - no counting. I know it's hard, believe me I do, but you have to change this in order for the rest to change. Your life cannot continue to be about numbers, whether on the scale, in your clothes or on your plate.
Lack of activity is also bad - your heart has suffered enough from the anorexia - bone and muscle loss has occured and you're not doing anything to improve this.
Moderate activity with at least 10 minutes of good cardio a day is as easy as taking a brisk walk or putting the ear buds in and dancing your feet off to a couple tunes. Easy-easy-easy
Continue to eat as you are - aiming for health first and last. When you notice yourself counting anything, distract yourself. Start singing a song, pick up a Rubiks Cube or Sudoku puzzle (these are 'mathematic' distractions that won't let that part of your brain count calories).
WHENEVER you start thinking calories or something - reach for a distraction, sing - just re-direct.
My site has healthy eating options (all free), but it seems like you've got this handled. It's just the details that you need to work out :)
Keep up the good work!
