QUESTION: how can i lose 20 pounds in six weeks. i am 19 and 205 pounds
ANSWER: That is a fairly rapid weight loss and I don't really recommend that for your health. You should focus on gradually losing the weight, otherwise you will find yourself gaining it back an in the same place next year.

Focus on high fiber, whole grain carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, lean sources of protein, and fat from healthy sources like nuts and fish.

You should also get some moderate exercise. This will help you use the calories you eat more efficiently and drive more to muscle and less to fat storage.

In order to maintain your weight with a moderate exercise program you would need to eat about 3300 calories per day. To lose weight you can cut this back to about 2300 - I would not suggest eating less than that. For each 10lbs you drop you can reduce your calories by about 150 - 175 calories per day until you hit your weight loss goal.

Okay, for your weight I recommend eating about 2300 calories per day in order to lose weight. You will have to count the calories from product labels, etc.

Still, you should eat cereals and breads that have whole grain as the first ingredient and that have about 4g of fiber or more per serving. You should eat 4-6 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. You should get your protein from chicken, fish, nuts and vegetables or legumes.

Every time you lose 10 lbs then decrease the amount of calories you are eating by about 150. So when your weight drops to 195lbs the decrease your daily calorie intake to 2150, when you get down to 185lbs then eat 2000 calories. Keep doing that until you get to the weight you want.

When you reach your goal of 155lbs. then start to eat about 2500 calories a day again to maintain that weight, still focusing on the food types I suggest above.
