QuestionQUESTION: I have this proclivity too eat triple, maybe quadruple, the serving size of ice cream(serving size-half cup, I eat bowl full),popcorn, white rice, etc. As you know, this means my blood sugar will plummet(I don't have diabetes)and I feel very fatigued and have to rest.
I know there are certain foods, like sweet potato, that stabilize blood sugar.
Would you be able to please inform me of the others?
Thank you so much.
ANSWER: Dear Jeff, Proteins and fats are the foods that stabilize the blood sugar and do not cause the blood sugar spikes and drops you speak of. All carbohydrate foods are reduced to sugar in the blood stream. Some carb foods are reduced or digested quicker causing the body to send out insulin which in turn, drops the blood sugar. The difference is the glycemic index of the food. Check out this website for more information on the glycemic index. www.glycemicindex.com/
Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com

QUESTION: When your blood sugar drops like described above, what are the best things to do to get rid of the fatiguing feeling?
rest, exercise, eat something with a special nutrient, what do you think would help this once it kicks in?
AnswerDear Jeff, There is really nothing you can do, that your body isn't already trying to do, which is stabilizing the blood sugar. Some people think a protein food like peanut butter (low sugar type) helps to raise the sugar without the spikes. Maybe that website I gave you has some ideas. Laura Kraemer, Slimkids.com
